Technically,yes. Trying to burn or download video media w/o consent is punishable by 500,000 or 5 years in jail or both. Keeping it for yourself for your enjoyment with promise of never selling or giving it away w/o monetary gain, kinda shaky. Just don't run around the house with a pair of open scissors, okay?

Well, millions of people record Lost on their DVD-R recorder each month, so I hope I don't get sued for recording crummy news programs which aren't even being preserved by the production companies.

not a problem if you keep yourself. But don't sell it and do not upload on IA: they'll be on you similar to fleas on a dog.
